VOTE.

I’m going to keep this short and sweet.  Obviously, if you are reading this you know me semi-well enough for me to ask you a favour: PLEASE VOTE.  It’s not about who you vote for (well…that can be argued but I will save my political viewpoints for another post) it really is just about VOTING. The highest % of eligible voter turnout occurred in years 1958, 1962, and 1963 at 79%- surprise, surprise: the Trudeau Years. Voter turnout has been declining since then, with a few sporadic influxes in a few years.  In the last election, only 58.8% of eligible voters turned out (Statistics Canada).

People across the world are literally dying for the right to vote.  And those of us in democratic societies seem to have forgotten the struggles taken to achieve inclusive voting rights and are taking them for granted.

I am begging you all, please: educate yourselves! If you are unfamiliar with a party’s platform, investigate and inform yourself about something that will be directly affecting you.  That IS your responsibility and it does not take a lot of time.  Prepare yourself for May 2 so when that day comes you can take the 10 or 20 minutes it will take to head to your community centre or local school and check a silly little box.  Except that silly little box could actually start making a difference.

NOW, VOTE!  (and pass this on to EVERYONE you know, please.)
